Today I am glad to announce the first release of django-modeltranslation, a Django app which can be used to translate dynamic content of existing models to an arbitrary number of languages without having to change the original model classes.

It uses a registration approach (comparable to Django’s admin app) to be able to add translations to existing or new projects and is fully integrated into the Django admin backend.

The project is hosted at Google Code, installation packages and documentation can be found there:

This is the first release and it is not recommended to be used on production sites yet, although it already contains unittests for the most cases. If you try it out and find a bug, please post it to the project’s issue tracker on Google Code.

Hi,

We are using our own implementation for internationalization in our project (quite big system) which is similar in architecture to django-multilingual. At first this solution seems to be nice but the truth is that is very, very heavy… Two days ago I've found your code and I'm very happy with your idea - it's very light and pure (I've also look at other solutions - like transmeta - but using metaclasses makes it also heavy). I'm thinking now to rebuild all our system because of this :-). Thank you!

Looks good, I like how it can be used without changing model code.

Can't seem to get it to work with forms.ModelForm is there some solution for this?

Thanks
